The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major initiative to provide free delivery of petrol and diesel across Nigeria, beginning August 15, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery said the move is targeted at marketers, petrol station dealers, manufacturers, telecom operators, aviation companies, and other bulk users of petroleum products.
The initiative includes the deployment of 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to enhance distribution capacity across the country.
As part of its strategy to eliminate logistics bottlenecks and reduce operational costs, Dangote Refinery will also establish daughter booster CNG stations and operate over 100 CNG tankers to support the delivery network. This effort is aimed at increasing fuel accessibility nationwide, especially in rural and underserved communities.

The refinery also introduced a credit facility for large-scale buyers. Those purchasing a minimum of 500,000 litres will be eligible to receive an additional 500,000 litres on a two-week credit, backed by a bank guarantee. The scheme is designed to bolster cash flow for major players in the fuel distribution chain.
According to the company, this initiative aligns with its broader vision to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape, promote sustainability, drive economic development, and improve fuel affordability. The refinery emphasized that revitalizing dormant petrol stations, stimulating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and creating jobs are among the key expected outcomes of the programme.
Aliko Dangote, founder of the refinery, hinted that this initiative signals a coming “shakedown” in Nigeria’s downstream sector—not necessarily through price cuts but through a structural overhaul of fuel distribution in the country.
This development comes at a critical time, as tanker drivers in Lagos State have threatened to stop loading fuel due to high logistics fees, highlighting the urgency of reforms in the distribution sector.
