The Nigerian equities market delivered its best monthly performance of 2025 in May, with the NGX All-Share Index surging 5.62% to close at 111,742.01. This bullish momentum was underpinned by increased investor confidence, higher trading volumes, and robust corporate earnings.

Market activity intensified as monthly volume jumped 55.72%, reaching 12.6 billion shares, up from 8.2 billion in April. Gains were largely driven by strong rallies in large- and mid-cap stocks, many of which saw price spikes in reaction to positive Q1 earnings and renewed sector optimism.

Here are the top 10 best-performing Nigerian stocks in May:

10. ABC Transport (43.2%)

ABC Transport rebounded strongly, climbing from N2.06 to N2.95 after reporting a profit of N352 million in Q1 2025, reversing a loss from the previous year.

9. Nestlé Nigeria Plc (44.6%)

Nestlé rose from N1,100 to over N1,500, buoyed by a strong Q1 performance with a N51.15 billion pre-tax profit, reversing a massive loss in Q1 2024.

8. Champion Breweries (44.7%)

Champion Breweries gained 44.7%, closing at N6.80. A significant Q1 turnaround, with a N1.7 billion profit, helped lift sentiment.

7. University Press (57.8%)

The stock jumped from N3.74 to N5.90 after reporting a Q4 profit of N639.5 million, a recovery from a prior-year loss.

6. Honeywell Flour Mills (61.5%)

Honeywell rose to N21.00, up 61.5%, driven by strong earnings—a N21.39 billion pre-tax profit representing a 348.8% YoY jump.

5. Red Star Express (64.8%)

Red Star rallied to N8.32, closing five straight weeks higher as it broke through key technical resistance.

4. Academy Press (65.5%)

Shares climbed to N4.75 following a 430% YoY profit increase in Q3 results, attracting significant buying interest.

3. Caverton Offshore (73.6%)

Caverton soared to N4.20, rebounding from prior losses after posting a Q1 profit of N1.6 billion.

2. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (85.2%)

The stock surged to N138.90, driven by strong consumer goods sentiment and improved investor confidence.

1. Beta Glass (133.0%)

Leading the pack, Beta Glass more than doubled, closing at N232.65 following a stellar Q1 profit of N15.2 billion and 69% revenue growth.
