The Nigerian and German governments have expressed their commitment to strengthening economic ties and fostering investment-friendly policies to boost economic growth and job creation.
This partnership was highlighted during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Germany to Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, in Abuja.
The collaboration aims to enhance vocational training, skilled migration, and business development, aligning with Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme, which seeks to connect the country’s skilled workforce with global employment opportunities.
Former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed emphasized the longstanding relationship between the two nations, which began in 2005. He noted that the partnership has already seen success through initiatives like the Dual Vocational Education Project, implemented in Nigeria since 2011.

This project, developed in collaboration with Nigerian chambers of commerce, has provided structured vocational training and skills development, significantly reducing youth unemployment in regions like Abuja, Lagos, and Ogun. Over 95% of apprentices trained under this system have received job offers, showcasing its effectiveness.
The German delegation, led by Matthias Leder, President of the Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, invited Nigeria to participate in the upcoming “World Meets in Giessen” conference, scheduled for May 20-21, 2025.
This event will bring together global businesses to discuss investment opportunities and economic growth.
Leder highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, particularly in addressing Germany’s growing demand for skilled labour while providing Nigerians with opportunities to develop their skills and contribute to global economic growth.
Dr. Oduwole expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it would create long-term opportunities for Nigerian youth and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country.
