Morocco’s blueberry export has set a new record in the market, soaring by 25%. This represents a fourfold growth since the 2017/18 season highlighting Morocco’s rising dominance in the global blueberry market.
According to a report by EastFruit, Morocco exported approximately 67,000 metric tons of fresh blueberries between July 2023 and June 2024, a remarkable growth from the previous season.
One of the major shifts during this period was the changing phase of Morocco’s export countries.
Spain had been the main importer of Moroccan blueberries, accounting for 80% of the products in previous years. However, this season, it dropped by almost 30%.
With the decline in the Spanish exports, Morocco expanded into other markets. Exports to the United Kingdom grew by 30%, hitting 14,600 tons.
Also, The Netherlands saw an increase of 42%, with a total of 14,500 tons imported. In addition, Germany and France also recorded significant upticks, with exports rising by 25% and 19% respectively.
Outside of Europe, Morocco is also creating new frontiers in other regions. The Middle East emerged as a growing export market for Moroccan blueberries, with about 1,800 tons exported to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Morocco also exported 360 tons to the United States and 900 tons to Canada, showing its expansion into the North America region.
Furthermore, Morocco has been strengthening its foothold in Southeast Asia, with Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia receiving notable shipments.
This has strengthened Morocco’s position among the top five blueberry suppliers in Southeast Asia.
