Telecommunications firms, 9mobile and MTN, have declared that the National Roaming agreement recently sanctioned by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will be implemented by the end of this month throughout Nigeria.
This indicates that 9mobile customers will have the ability to utilise network services wherever MTN’s network is accessible nationwide.
The Chief Executive Officer of 9mobile, Obafemi Banigbe, revealed this information on Thursday during a joint press conference organised by both companies to provide details about the agreement.
“We are currently testing the service in some regions just to make sure that we are working correctly without any interruption. We expect that all our tests will be completed over the weekend.

“So, we expect that within the month of July, we will be able to have a rollout across the country based on the outcome of the tests that we have done,” Banigbe stated.
With the national roaming agreement, 9mobile subscribers can now make calls, send SMS, and access data using MTN’s infrastructure in regions where 9mobile’s network is either absent or unreliable, thereby supporting the sustainability of the telecommunications company.
For 9mobile, which has faced challenges in securing funding for coverage expansion, this signifies an opportunity for growth at minimal or no expense.
Rather than investing in its own infrastructure, which requires significant capital, it can now directly connect to MTN’s extensive network.
This agreement represents a transformative step for both telecom operators and a significant advancement towards enhanced network coverage and digital inclusion in Nigeria.
