CAC launches new AI-powered portal for business registration

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered registration portal designed to revolutionise the way businesses are registered in Nigeria.

Announced by the Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, during the 2025 Stakeholders’ Forum in Port Harcourt, the new portal aims to drastically cut down registration times and remove bureaucratic bottlenecks that have long hampered entrepreneurs.

According to Magaji, the AI-powered system will allow business owners to reserve company names instantly, with the technology suggesting available alternatives if their preferred names are already taken. This will make the process as easy as opening an email account.

One of the standout features of this new platform is its ability to facilitate registration using only the National Identification Number (NIN) of a director or proprietor. Once the NIN is verified in real-time, a certificate of incorporation will be generated and delivered to the applicant’s email within 30 minutes.

While Magaji acknowledged that occasional delays could still occur due to external verifications by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), he assured stakeholders that the CAC has built a contingency into the system through AI-powered photo ID matching to overcome such challenges.

To enhance security, the Commission will implement two-factor authentication and OTP verification for all transactions, ensuring no changes can be made to company records without the full consent of registered directors.

In addition, a dedicated CAC mobile application will be launched in the last quarter of 2025, enabling users to track and manage transactions conveniently from their mobile devices.

The Registrar-General also announced a review of service fees, effective August 1, 2025, to maintain high-quality service delivery and support the Commission’s ongoing technological upgrades.

The Stakeholders’ Forum saw goodwill messages from industry leaders. A CAC technical team was on ground at the event to address customer concerns and resolve registration challenges in real time.
