Uganda’s coffee exports to China have soared by a staggering 190% as of March 2025, signaling a new era of trade and investment cooperation between the two nations.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Uganda exported 35,532 bags of coffee to China in March alone, up from 12,264 in February.
This development was highlighted during the conclusion of the 1st Uganda-China Coffee Awareness Tour, which wrapped up with the inaugural Uganda-China Coffee Trade and Investment Meeting.
The tour, which commenced on May 12, took delegates through Uganda’s major coffee-producing regions including Masaka, Mbarara, and Mbale, and was aimed at boosting awareness, fostering partnerships, and unlocking trade and investment opportunities in Uganda’s fast-growing coffee sector.

She pledged continued efforts by the Embassy to eliminate trade barriers and promote market access and technology exchange.
On his part, Ambassador Zhang Lizhong, China’s envoy to Uganda, praised the initiative for deepening bilateral trade ties and introducing Chinese consumers to Uganda’s “rich coffee heritage.”
He noted China’s increasing preference for sustainably sourced, high-quality coffee and underscored the importance of long-term cooperation anchored in trust and innovation.
