The Federal Revenue Service has set out to strengthen tax policy formulation and capacity-building initiatives not only in Nigeria but throughout the West African region.
FIRS Executive Chairman Dr Zacch Adedeji made this known at the meeting/training of the West African Taxation Bureau’s Heads/Training Forum for the 20th Wataf Council meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.
At the event, Adedeji highlighted the crucial role of tax policies in fostering sustainable economic growth and the need for regional countries to improve the mobilization of domestic resources.
The role of effective communication in tax management cannot be overestimated,” he said, appealing to participants, including heads of corporate communications and heads of corporate communications from various tax institutions in West Africa.

“As a national correspondent and head of corporate communications, you are an ambassador for the tax agency responsible for designing stories, clarifying guidelines and promoting voluntary compliance,” he added. Adedeji encouraged participants to make the most of their platform, exchange ideas, strengthen expert bonds, and take over best practices that tax bureaus can improve in their respective countries.
He asked them to actively participate in discussions, use network options and apply knowledge gained to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of control systems across the region.
The FIRS chair said the country has a long-term role for Nigeria in promoting regional tax cooperation, across West Africa.
