Dangote Industries has strengthened its position in Nigeria’s automotive sector by launching its latest Peugeot car models.

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN), the official manufacturer and distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria, has begun assembly of the GT model of the globally successful and award-winning SUV, the Peugeot 3008.

Equipped with a powerful 1.6-litre turbo engine, the Peugeot 3008 GT expands DPAN’s existing product range, produced at the company’s state-of-the-art assembly plant in Kaduna.

This marks an important step in Dangote’s efforts to boost local automotive production and strengthen Nigeria’s automotive industry.

The first assembly in Africa of the Peugeot 3008 model took place in Ghana in 2022.

This marks an important milestone in the brand’s expansion on the continent, especially in the production of the globally recognised Peugeot 3008 SUV.

The assembly will take place at the Tema Assembly Plant owned by Silver Star Auto and is the result of a partnership between Citroën, Peugeot and Silver Star Auto that began in 2019.

Nigeria is making significant efforts to increase domestic automotive production to reduce reliance on imports and promote industry growth.

Leading companies such as Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Stallion Group, Nord and Dangote Group have boosted the local automotive assembly market and increased domestic manufacturing capacity.

The Nigeria Automotive Industry Development Programme (NAIDP) 2024-2034 aims to promote local manufacturing of automotive spare parts and reduce imports that cost about US$1 billion annually.

The development of local components such as batteries, tyres and exhaust systems is essential to strengthen the industry.

Nigeria can reduce reliance on imports and achieve broader national economic development goals by promoting domestic manufacturing.
