The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, is advocating for the quick passage of the new tax reform bills and an upgrade of infrastructure to aid the development of the country. MAN President, Francis Meshioye gave the charge at a press briefing in Lagos while highlighting the challenges manufacturers faced in 2024.
Meshioye noted that the year 2024 was a challenging one for manufacturers due to high inflation, high interest rates, a surge in energy costs, and multiple taxation, among others. He urged the government to address these issues and prioritise the manufacturing sector this year, noting that “For the sector to regain its momentum, efforts to improve productivity and enhance competitiveness must be sustained as this is crucial in helping Nigerian manufacturers navigate the challenges they face.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that manufacturing is pivotal to galvanizing and sustaining the economic growth and development of Nigeria. We seek the government’s alignment with our conviction that a win for the manufacturing sector is a win for the economy and by extension, a better life for the citizenry.”
Also, Meshioye urged the government to fast-track the passage of the tax reforms bills, implement patronage of locally made goods, tame inflation, upgrade infrastructure, address insecurity, maintain a stable interest rate and boost access to capital for businesses in the country.
