Germany and Morocco are strengthening their agricultural ties at the 89th edition of Berlin’s International Green Week (Grüne Woche).

The event, which runs from January 17 to 26, 2025, in Berlin, is a global agricultural event providing a platform for both nations to deepen their collaboration in the agricultural sector.

Germany’s Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, hailed Morocco as a crucial partner for Germany and the European Union. During his meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, Özdemir highlighted the “strong and balanced” partnership between the two nations and expressed a clear intent to elevate their relations.

He remarked, “We want to advance together, building on the solid foundation of our partnership.”

The meeting culminated in the signing of a declaration to establish a joint working group focused on food security, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource management.

This initiative aims to address common challenges, such as climate change and water scarcity while supporting farmers in both countries. Annual meetings will be held to discuss shared issues and develop collaborative solutions.

Morocco made a notable impact at the event with its vibrant pavilion showcasing the Kingdom’s agricultural heritage and commitment to sustainability. Featuring 21 exhibitors representing 39 cooperatives, the pavilion displayed high-value products such as argan oil, olive oil, saffron, dates, and medicinal plants. Many of these cooperatives included women from rural areas, reflecting Morocco’s dedication to inclusive agricultural development.

El Bouari emphasized that Morocco’s participation aligns with the “Generation Green 2020-2030” strategy, which promotes sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices. The pavilion also served as a platform for Morocco to strengthen international partnerships and share its expertise in eco-friendly farming methods.

Since its inception in 1926, Berlin’s Green Week, attracting over 1,500 exhibitors and nearly 400,000 visitors, remains a global hub for discussions on food security and agriculture. Morocco’s active role in the event highlights its commitment to achieving sustainable agricultural growth and enhancing its international presence.
