The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, Hani Seviram, and the Minister of Water Resources of Nigeria, Joseph Utsef, met to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the water sector.
Minister Severam expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with Minister Utsef and emphasized his determination to strengthen relations between the two countries and increase cooperation in water management.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise and best practices in solving many African countries’ water and climate challenges.
The leaders discussed how to strengthen cooperation through the framework to be signed at the Cairo Water Summit in October 2024. Water facility management, water management systems solar, flood and weather forecasting, flood risk management, rainwater harvesting systems, groundwater management, water management, water climate change and water quality monitoring.

The issue of strengthening cooperation in scientific research was also discussed, with Sewilam proposing the implementation of various joint projects within the framework of the AWARE initiative.
Seviram said that Egypt’s commitment to provide training to Nigerian water experts through the Pan-African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (PACWA) was initiated as part of the AWARE initiative. He noted that Nigeria is an important country hosting specialized training courses to address the challenges of climate change in water.
The leaders also discussed the efforts of the African Council of Ministers (AMCOW) to serve African countries. Dr. Seviram emphasized Egypt’s commitment to promoting cooperation with all African countries on water and climate. He said that Egypt will host the September Africa Water Week in October 2024, while the August Cairo Water Week, scheduled for October 2024, will focus on presenting and discussing African perspectives.
Sewilam invited a group of Nigerians to the 8th Cairo Water Week, saying that the focus of the discussion would be Africa.
