With the expansion of Angola Cables’ partnership with TelCables Nigeria, the digital landscape of West Africa is set to undergo a major transformation. The company’s latest initiatives include the establishment of a new Point of Presence (PoP) at its Rack Centre location in Lagos, marking a significant milestone in the development of the region’s digital infrastructure.

TelCables Nigeria and West Africa CEO Fernando Fernandes highlighted the significance of the expansion. The new PoP aims to transform digital connectivity by providing faster, more reliable connections to businesses, governments and individuals in the region, increasing local traffic.

Angola Cables brings technical expertise to the sector with its 33,000-mile submarine cable network. The company’s global reach continues through shared cables, creating connections between the Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia. Since entering the West African market in November 2022, TelCables has been working hard to develop ICT solutions in the region.

The expansion aligns with Rack Center’s mission to develop the campus in Lagos. The location of the LGS 2 data centre will also be completed soon, allowing for increased capacity at the school. Once completed, the centre will provide 13.5 MW of IT power and 7,200 square meters of space, creating a good working environment for digital studies.

Rack Center CEO Lars Johannisson spoke about the far-reaching results of the project. The new data centre was designed specifically with AI in mind to provide advanced data processing and storage capacity. Lagos currently hosts over 68 telecom operators, Internet service providers and international Tier 1 networks.

This major collaboration represents more than just technological advancement. It is a symbol of collaboration to advance technology in West Africa. The initiative makes the region a priority for global digital commerce and solves critical connectivity issues.

TelCables’ recent expansion is not limited to Nigeria. In March 2024, the company also demonstrated a broad commitment to digital connectivity across the country by opening a new PoP at its Teraco data centre in Durban, South Africa.

This development represents a significant opportunity for digital infrastructure in West Africa. By creating regional, cost-effective and robust connectivity solutions, TelCables and Rack Center have laid the foundation for future technological advancements and business growth in the region.

As digital transformation continues to accelerate, investments in such sectors will play a key role in connecting and supporting businesses and communities in West Africa.
