Kenya’s exports to Rwanda increased by over 240% to $121.4 million in October from $35.56 million in September.
Tanzania, on the other hand, exported goods worth $57.38 million in October, down 39% from $94.13 million in September.
Most of Kigali’s exports in October came from China, worth $125.77 million, up 13% from September.
Kenya is currently Rwanda’s second-largest importer of goods, with imports in October this year up 360% from October last year.
As of October, the country’s total imports reached $629.78 million, while total exports reached $266.13 million.
“The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 363.65 million in October 2024, a decrease of 7.37% compared to the previous month of September 2024. Year-to-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 11.89% on the deficit of October 2023,” the statistics body reported.
Other major products of Rwanda come from India, the United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Malaysia, Belgium, Egypt and Japan.
Rwanda exported food and live animals worth $115.8 million in October, compared to $97 million in September. Other major products include beverages and tobacco, raw materials, mineral oils and lubricants, animal and vegetable oils, chemicals and machinery.
Imports in October 2024 decreased by 1.92 per cent compared to September 2024 but increased by 23.99 per cent compared to October 2023.
