The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt formally launched eSims on Thursday after the country’s four mobile operators successfully passed all required technical testing.
Soon after the authority’s announcement, Orange Egypt released a press statement of its own launch of the technology, providing customers with the latest in telecommunications technology in Egypt.
This isn’t the first time Egypt has attempted to introduce eSIMs.
In 2022, Telecom Egypt worked with international industry leaders to successfully complete the first testing of eSIM technology on its network
The embedded electronic SIM (eSIM) service, a digital SIM embedded directly within smartphones, eliminates the need for traditional physical SIM cards.

This service is now available through the “My Orange” app or at Orange branches across the country.
The eSIM allows customers to activate up to 10 lines, depending on the phone’s capabilities, with a maximum of two lines active at any given time. Existing customers can easily switch from a traditional SIM to an eSIM through the app after obtaining a QR code for activation. New customers must visit an Orange branch to subscribe and activate the service, in line with NTRA guidelines.
Customers are encouraged to verify whether their smartphones support eSIM, which can be done through the app or by visiting an Orange branch.
The eSIM, which works with both Android and iOS devices, allows users to easily switch between networks and take advantage of the best offers without needing to physically replace their SIM cards.
Compared to traditional SIM cards, the technology provides a heightened level of security, as it is more difficult to remove or tamper with, offering greater protection against theft or unauthorized use.

Many modern smartphones, including the latest models from Apple, Samsung, and Google, already support eSIM technology, and it is widely supported that physical SIM cards could soon be a thing of the past.
