Ghana’s Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Africa’s premier mineral research organisation, MINTEK, to collaborate on the development of Ghana’s mining sector.

MIIF is Ghana’s sovereign wealth fund dedicated to managing and investing mineral royalties for long-term national benefit while MINTEK is South Africa’s national mineral research organization specializing in mineral processing and sustainable development in mining.

This strategic partnership between the two organizations aims to enhance technical expertise, innovation, and value addition in mineral processing while promoting sustainable development.

The MoU outlines joint initiatives in research and development, technology transfer, capacity building, and the organization of workshops and training programs. These efforts will improve mining efficiencies, boost local expertise, and create new opportunities within Ghana’s mining value chain.

Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, CEO of MIIF, emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership.

“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in maximizing Ghana’s mineral wealth for long-term economic growth,” he said, adding that the partnership would drive innovation and unlock new opportunities in the mining sector.

MINTEK, with 90 years of expertise in mineral research and technology, will contribute cutting-edge solutions to enhance Ghana’s mining capabilities. The organization’s Group Executive, Prof. Indresan Govender, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with MIIF to realize Ghana’s full mineral processing potential.

Key initiatives under the MoU include fostering sustainable mining practices, promoting environmental stewardship, and advancing minerals-based industrialization.

Prof. Douglas Boateng, MIIF’s board chairman, highlighted the broader impact, stating, “This partnership signals a new era of African collaboration to industrialize the mining sector for the benefit of its people.”

The collaboration aligns with MIIF’s vision to position Ghana as a leader in the global mining industry. By leveraging MINTEK’s expertise, the partnership aims to enhance the value of Ghana’s mining resources and drive sustainable economic growth, benefiting not only Ghana but the wider African mining community.
