Business Mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote has become the 65th richest man in the world according to Billboard’s Top 500 billionaires index report released yesterday.

According to the report, Dangote’s net-worth skyrocketed following the commencement of operations at his $20 billion refinery. Dangote was ranked 83rd in 2022 and he has seen his wealth grow significantly over the past two years, hitting the highest ranking ever for an African man.

Also on the list is South Africa’s Johann Rupert with a wealth valuation of $13.6 billion while Nicky Oppenheimer also of South Africa is number 224 on the world list with a wealth of $11.6 billion.

In addition, South Africa’s Natie Karsh is 297th on the list with a wealth valuation of $9.25 billion while Egypt’s Nassef Sawiris is ranked 302nd with a valuation of $9.16 billion. Naguib Sawiris also of Egypt is on the list with $9.16 billion.

Globally, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are the richest with $242 billion and $210 billion respectively. They are closely followed by Marc Zukerberg and Larry Ellison with $204 billion and $185 billion.

With the Dangote refinery commencing operations, there are high expectations that Nigeria’s heavy dependence on fuel importation will come to an end
