Petrofac Limited has signed a new service agreement with Marathon Petroleum of Equatorial Guinea. Under the agreement, Petrofac will provide legal and disciplined engineering support to ensure work quality, integrity and safety, the company said in a press release.
Petrofac added that it will support key assets onshore and offshore, including five offshore operations at Alba airport and the Alba offshore facility.
“This builds upon Petrofac’s strong relationship and track record with Marathon Oil having previously provided engineering, construction, operations and maintenance services to their Brae assets in the North Sea,” the company said.
Africa is a key target for Petrofac’s Asset Solutions business, which already operates in Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal and Mauritania, according to the statement. The Equatorial Guinea contract follows a services contract awarded by Equatorial Guinea’s national oil company, Compañña Nacional de Petróleos de Guinea Ecuatorial (GEPetrol).
In August, Petrofac partnered with TotalEnergies to expand Aramis’ flagship project.
The project is a collaboration between Aramis, TotalEnergies, Shell, Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) and Gasunie. It aims to contribute to the energy transition by providing decarbonization solutions to the economy by transporting CO2 to depleted offshore gas fields in the North, thus reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in hard-to-abate sectors.
Petrofac has won a multimillion-dollar front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a carbon dioxide injection platform from TotalEnergies EP Nederland BV. According to a previous report, the project involves the removal of the topside and the installation of a new booster platform connected to the Aramis CO2 distribution network.
The contract, which follows the award of FEED to Petrofac earlier this year, includes the construction of an offshore, onshore and offshore CO2 mainline for the Aramis system, as well as an offshore Limited CO2 hub platform.
Petrofac’s Head of Energy Transition Project Operations John Pearson said that this award demonstrates our confidence in our ability to provide critical engineering and delivery expertise for all projects.
This CCS value project ties into the overall development of Aramis and is another important piece. One of the Netherlands’ goals is to capture millions of [metric tonnes] of CO2 from the region’s emissions hubs. We are delighted to contribute to these goals.
