The European Council has voted to extend sanctions against six Sudanese individuals and nine entities until October 2025, the EU Council said on Tuesday.
According to Schengen News, as announced in the press release, the restrictions on these individuals and organizations will continue until October 10, 2025.
As is always the case in Horn of Africa geopolitics, the conflict has led external actors with sceptical views to support the winning side in the end. More than 12,000 people have been killed and millions displaced since the conflict began, with no end in sight.
According to these measures, selected people will be banned from travelling to the EU, meaning they will not be allowed to enter the EU.
In addition, the assets of designated individuals and organizations will be restricted and EU citizens will not be able to give them money.
The entities listed include two companies that manufacture weapons and vehicles for the Sudanese Armed Forces, one company that invests in the Sudanese Armed Forces, and three companies that purchase military equipment for Doctors Without Borders Response.
The European Council added that Member States should take all necessary measures to prevent the entry or transit of persons on the sanctions list.
The first package of sanctions against six entities was approved on January 22, 2024.
As explained, all these entities are or belong to the SAF and RSF and are also responsible for supporting activities affecting the stability and political change of Sudan.
The situation is not the same for registered persons when measures were taken against the organizations in the first month of this year.
The restrictions for the first beneficiary do not apply as of June 24, 2024. Although only three months have passed since that date, the Board decided to postpone the measure for another year.
