The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is gearing up to host investor clinics in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt as part of the 2024 World Investor Week (WIW), scheduled from October 7 to 11.

Organized annually by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), this year’s theme revolves around “Technology and Digital Finance, Crypto Assets, and Sustainable Finance.”

The theme reflects the growing influence of financial innovations and digitalization on global investment opportunities.

These clinics, according to SEC’s Director General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, aim to address key issues related to investors’ participation in Nigeria’s capital market while educating prospective investors on the investment landscape.

The clinics will be held at SEC’s zonal offices in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja, as well as at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Conference at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

This initiative provides investors an opportunity to resolve problems with their investments, such as unclaimed dividends, e-dividend account mandates, and other inquiries.

Additionally, it allows for direct engagement with capital market stakeholders, including stockbrokers, registrars, and fund managers.

As part of the WIW, the SEC will also focus on promoting investor education and protection. The week-long event features a series of informative sessions designed to help both seasoned and new investors navigate the rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Highlights include a Twitter Space discussion on crypto assets, webinars on digital finance, and presentations on sustainable finance.

In addition, a financial literacy program aimed at students will be hosted at Pan-Atlantic University, ensuring that younger generations are educated about smart investment practices.

The SEC’s clinics are expected to help investors make better, more informed financial decisions, boost their confidence and participation in the capital market, and promote long-term financial sustainability.

Agama emphasized the importance of these events, encouraging investors to participate and resolve any pending investment issues.
