A 20-member high-level business delegation from Tunisia is currently in Nigeria for the Nigeria-Tunisia Economic Forum, themed “Multisectoral Economic Mission in Nigeria.”
The forum, which began yesterday and ends on Friday, aims to explore and create various investment opportunities between the two countries.
Led by Anis Jaziri, President of Tunisia Africa Business Council, the delegation was received by Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohsen Antit, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The forum, organized in collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, seeks to boost bilateral economic relations between Nigeria and Tunisia.
Jaziri highlighted the unprecedented nature of the visit, citing the diverse range of sectors represented, including construction, information technology, healthcare, trading, engineering, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals.
According to him, the visit aims to create opportunities between Tunisia and Nigeria, leveraging Tunisia’s excellent products and services in various sectors. It will also explore economic cooperation opportunities in Nigeria and conduct numerous B-to-B meetings to establish significant partnerships between Tunisian operators and Nigerian partners.
Ambassador Antit emphasized the strategic importance of choosing Nigeria for the forum, given its status as the largest economy in Africa and a key ECOWAS member state.
He noted that Nigeria has significant economic potential and a favorable climate for investment and attracting businessmen. The forum aims to add momentum to existing bilateral relations and promote trade among African countries.
The event follows the successful Financing Investment Trade Africa (FITA) forum held in Tunisia in June, which was attended by 35 Nigerian companies.
Antit recalled that the earlier visit of the Nigerian businessmen and CEOs delegation to Tunisia for FITA was very successful, as many contracts were signed between various companies on both sides.
According to the United Nations COMTRADE database, Nigeria’s exports to Tunisia totaled $35.72 million in 2023, with main products including gypsum, salt, and leather stock.
