The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will hold the second meeting of the Capital Markets Committee (CMC) in Lagos. The meeting will be held on August 14, 2024.

The meeting intends to create strategies for boosting the capital market’s role in promoting economic growth and development and is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

SEC Director-General Emomotimi Agama will present the industry’s strategy during the meeting, including steps to increase investor interest protection, boost market efficiency, and draw in investments.

The purpose of the gathering is to devise methods for augmenting the capital market’s contribution to economic growth and advancement.

Key stakeholders, including CEOs of registered capital market firms, broker/dealers, investment advisers, custodians, fund/portfolio managers, market infrastructures, and industry observers, will gather to discuss the industry’s current landscape, regulatory framework, and future growth strategies.

In addition to exchanging ideas and addressing issues, participants will reaffirm their commitment to promoting a strong investment climate that is marked by innovation, sustainability, and investor safety.

The CMC meeting will focus on critical issues affecting the market and emerging trends and review reports from technical committees, market infrastructures, and industry observers.

As an industry-wide body, the CMC serves as a platform for dialogue, facilitating the exchange of ideas, addressing key issues, and collaborating on shaping the market’s future.

The SEC established the committee to encourage stakeholder engagement, provide feedback, and drive continuous improvement in market operations and regulatory frameworks.

By engaging with stakeholders and addressing key issues, the SEC aims to create a conducive environment for investment and innovation to thrive.

Through this meeting, the SEC demonstrates its commitment to promoting a vibrant capital market that supports Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
